What is ALOS?

ALOS (Average Length of Stay) is a healthcare metric that measures the average number of days a patient spends in a hospital or healthcare facility. It is calculated by dividing the total number of patient days (the sum of the days all patients stay) by the total number of admissions.

ALOS is used to assess hospital efficiency, patient care, and resource utilization. A shorter ALOS may indicate effective care and quick recovery, while a longer ALOS could signal complications, inefficiencies, or the need for more complex treatments.
